In rural business, service is the engine of success. The agency prides itself on individual service, but as equally important-community service. We are so pleased that our employees are in leadership roles within their churches, schools, and organizations. Without this form of dedication, we would have no communities.

Over the past twenty years or so, the insurance industry has drastically changed. Companies have come and gone, insurance products have been revised and enhanced, and insurance rates have obviously kept pace with inflation. Bruce Maxwell

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers that have done business with our office since its opening in October of 1982. Time has flown by since that 1st day of August in 1979, when I started my first day as an insurance agent at the Laber & Walz Agency in Parkston. Three years later I joined forces with my very able partner, Pat Bowar, and we formed the Maxwell & Bowar Agency on October 1, 1982. Since that day, the growth and change in our office has been phenomenal. When the agency first started we had two agents and a secretary. Today, we have a total office staff of 11 very capable and hard working employees. We have tried to be very responsive to the needs of our insureds and to react to the marketplace as quickly as possible. We have made tremendous strides in the crop insurance business and health insurance business of which we are very proud. These are two areas that play a vital role in how our area farmers and businesspeople conduct their business.

We pride ourselves in being a well-rounded agency with the ability to serve all of your insurance needs in one stop. We have deparmentalized our staff so that they are working in an area of their expertise so that you can be assured that you are receiving knowledgeable and professional service both when your policy is being written and when changes are made and when we are handling claims for you. We are extremely proud of our staff, which has well over 100 years of experience in the insurance business.

We also have 4 real estate brokers in our office to serve your real estate needs. We have been in the real estate business since 1982 as well and are capable of handling all types of real estate sales. Our agency has sold hundreds of homes in the Parkston area over the years as well as many farms and farmground, so we look foward to working with you on all of your real estate needs.

We appreciate all of the loyalty that our good customers have given us over the many years, and for those of you, who we have not served, give us a try. I think you will be happy with our fast, fair, friendly service.

Pat McCann

Pat has been with the Maxwell & Bowar Agency since 1988. He is the manager of our Ethan agency and is responsible for all lines of insurance including farm, home, auto, commercial, crop, life, health, and annuities. Pat is also a licensed real estate associate broker at the agency.

Jan Krueger

Jan has been with the Maxwell & Bowar Agency since 1984. She has 35 years of insurance experience and is the supervisor of all personal lines including auto and home. In addition, Jan specializes in Medicare Supplement policies and individual health insurance policies along with commercial lines underwriting.

Bart Laber

Bart has been with the Maxwell & Bowar Agency since 1998. Bart specializes in crop insurance sales and services and is responsible for farm production reporting, acreage reporting, and general crop insurance service. In addition, Bart works exclusively with area producers addressing their Farm Insurance and Auto Insurance needs.

Phyllis Boddicker

Phyllis has been with the Maxwell & Bowar Agency since 1982. She specializes in crop insurance sales and service including acreage-production reporting. Phyllis also supervises all crop insurance claims and accounting information. In addition, she is responsible for the production and maintenance of the field mapping and booklets.

Geraldine Stark

Gerry has been with the Maxwell & Bowar Agency since 1984. Gerry is licensed in personal lines, however her primary responsibilities revolve around Agency accounting, processing, billing, and customer service. She has these same responsibilities in taking care of the Maxwell & Bowar Agency in Ethan, South Dakota.

JoAnn Heck

JoAnn joined the agency in 1995. She is solely responsible for all the data input within the crop department as well as the responsibility of reviewing and verifying all submitted data to our crop company. JoAnn is also a customer service representative for the agency.

Mike Bowar

Mike joined the Maxwell & Bowar Agency in February, 2004. He is a recent graduate of the University of South Dakota, and is currently licensed in property, casualty, life and health. Mike is currently focusing on meeting the community and enjoying his time back in Parkston.

Mike Maxwell

Mike is the newest member of our office. He recently joined the Agency in August, 2004 and is currently licensed in property, casualty, life, and health. Mike graduated from Mount Marty College in 2002 and was a teacher in Sioux Falls for 2 years. Mike is happy to be back in the community and is looking forward to raising a family in Parkston.
